Description

The premises of Industrial museum were the decoration of the street called Liliina. The initiator of its creation in 1896 was the director of the State industrial school Josef Leitzner, who addressed a corresponding request to the Chamber of commerce of Bukovyna. The purpose of creation of such museum is to promote the industrial development of the region, to interest the people in the development of trade and crafts. The idea was supported. When writing the statute of museum, the director of Technological industrial museum of Vienna Dr. Wilhelm Exner acted as consultant. By the end of 1887 for the construction of museum 2584 florins was collected. The initiator of the establishment of museum – Josef Leitzner, has become the director. For familiarizing with the experience of activity of industrial museums and buying exhibits he visited several European cities. Some items were purchased in Austria. The museum was solemnly opened in December 1888 in the premises of the industrial school. For that time 1300 exhibits were collected. This amount, as well as the increase in the number of students, provided the need for constructing the own premises. For this the city has donated a land plot, and the funds were allocated by Bukovyna Sejm, Orthodox religious foundation, Bukovina savings bank. The cornerstone was laid into the foundation on July 2, 1894. For this event the Minister of commerce of Austria-Hungary count Vurmbrand-Shtuppah arrived. Construction was carried out under the guidance of city architect Elias Papst in the style of the Italian Renaissance. The premises were built at the end of 1895. The director became the professor of industrial school Carl Romschtorfer (Carl Leitzner died in October 1895). In the building on December 15, 1895 for the first time in Bukovyna the New Year's fair was opened. The grand opening of the Industrial museum of Bukovyna took place on November 1, 1896. In 1935 Industrial museum was joined with Regional museum of Bukovyna (before that he operated at the Residence), and it was called the Museum of King Carol the II. From 1940 on its base the Chernivtsi regional local history museum was created, and the facilities were provided to accommodate Chernivtsi university academic building. Now here are the premises of "Ukrsotsbank".
