The church of ”The Saint Cross” from Pătrăuți, built in 1487, represents one of the smallest foundations of the voivode Stephen the Great. The reason for building this place was to create a monastery for nuns, to take care of the soldiers wounded during the war. The church was built based on trefoil shape, with the tower on the nave, and the narthex having a spherical dome. The outer decoration is simple, with plastered walls, with the niches at the lateral apses and at the sanctuary. The tower has a row of recesses and enamelled bricks. At the inside, the painting is not very well preserved, since for a period of almost 150 years the church remained in ruin and without a roof. However, a part of the painted scenes are still preserved thanks to restorations performed. It is worth mentioning the scenes: The Cavalcade of the Holy Cross, the scene of Wailing, the votive picture, the prosecutor Daniel, the Army of Martyrs, etc. The church can be accessed through a small door which had the role both to protect and to mark the piety of those entering the church, having to take a bow. The book of honour of the church keeps the signatures of those who visited it during time: Nicolae Iorga, George Enescu and other personalities. In the yard of the church there is a round stone table, which the locals call the ”table of Stephen the Great”, considering that it was used for a lordly feast. The church is an UNESCO monument, and in the year 2007, the parish priest Gabriel HEREA established”The Bukovinean Priest's Museum”.
