Chernivtsi celebrates the 605 anniversary

The first Saturday of October has traditionally been the landmark date for all residents and visitors of Chernivtsi. This year, residents of Chernivtsi celebrated the City Day on October 5, but the celebration was assigned to be at the first weekend of October that is on October 5-6. Although many activities were organized to start their implementation at the end of September, namely: athletic competition "The Bukovinian Mile" (September, 29), a week of history of the native land and city (September, 30 –     October, 4), the city stage of Ukrainian children's drawing competition "My Hometown" (October, 1-7), a medical event "Check your health" (October, 4). All these events have played a significant role in preparing the public to new events and further celebration of 605-year anniversary of the picturesque city of Chernivtsi.

Several activities and various events were organized for October 5-6 for all segments of the population living in Chernivtsi, or those ones who are just going through here, but are willing to share the joy of celebrating with the inhabitants of the "Little Paris".

For a long period of time the territory of modern Chernivtsi has been characterized by a high coefficient of multiculturalism, but at the same time it reflects high levels of coexistence of different cultures, rituals and traditions. It may be the reason why the Bukovinian picturesqueness was being transmitted through the following events: laying flowers on the graves of honourable citizens of the city, heads of the City Council; a flashmob "605 flags" from the student youth of the city; book fair "Book World of Bukovina"; a place of entertainment for children; a wedding parade, a feast for the representatives of blacksmithing; a charity fair from the Foundation "Give life to a child".

As in the previous years, each square of the city has taken its personal subject. This year the town of smiths has traditionally taken place in the area of Turkish well during the celebration of 605 years of Chernivtsi. This year the event has registered a record number of exhibitors and visitors, which included guests not only from neighboring regions, but also representatives of international delegations. The feast of national cuisines was also organized here and presented the Ukrainian, Romanian, Moldavian, Jew, Indian and Italian cuisines. 

The Central Square celebrated in the spirit of baking skills, the feast of "Bukovinian zavyvanets" took place here and presented baking masterpieces. Delicious cakes, fragrant loaves and sweet breads enchanted Bukovinian spirit and immersed in an atmosphere of celebration.

If the Central Square charmed with its three-storey loaves, then the Theater Square could take its visitors far into the past in a travel to the edge of a beautiful floral land with vintage cars of the last century, it was possible because of the flowers and vintage cars exhibitions held here. On the Philharmonic Square the clowns’ jokes and honest kids’ laughter could be heard and all this atmosphere enchanted people’s hearts.

The celebration of the 605th anniversary of Chernivtsi city was completed with a live concert and fireworks.
