Description

The unique structure of Chernivtsi - the building of the Palace of Justice, designed by Viennese architect Franz Skowron. The details were worked out by Arthur Vileman. Franz Hubish picked the materials and composed the method of construction. Construction works were carried out by Korytnyansky, Hisenberg and Marcus Kislinger – the owner of the “Patria” plant that produced the extra-bricks for masonry and glazed bricks. This is a typical example of classicism style, in the forms of which the motive of Italian Renaissance palazzo is reflected with features characteristic for modernism: facing brick, polychrome ceramics. The building is four-storeyed in the shape of a square with two inner yards. The façade side of entrance was crowned by luxurious oval concrete stairs with two line trim marble lions in one and a half size from natural. At the time of the Soviet Union the oval staircase was destroyed, while the constructive ones, decorated with brown granite were created, and sculptures of lions were brought down on the parapets. Architectural memorial of national significance.
