Description

In the XVIII century there was an inn “Under a golden ship” nearby. And in the XX century the house that steers through Chernivtsi streets, spitting the prisms of time, was built at the crossroads. The original architectural style of the building will leave not a single visitor unimpressed. Narrowed facade that resembles the bow of a ship, directed to the south, a deck in the form of an open and spacious balcony on the second floor and a small tower that resembles a mast, undoubtedly create an unmatched image of the masterpiece of shipbuilding in the imagination. In the bow of the ship there was located a small fountain with drinking water. It was constructed in the form of a lion, from the mouth of which water flowed, and decorated with figures of dolphins and other marine inhabitants. For a long time the fountain was the only place in the center of Chernivtsi, where passers-by could quench their thirst. It is clear that an unusual and fantastic view of “Shifa” confused the imagination of townspeople, that led to a large number of legends which are passed from mouth to mouth today as well. According to one of the most interesting legends that entwine the boat house like ages-old cobwebs, the house was built by two brothers. The Chernivtsi ship that is on course from the past to the future for almost a hundred years already is a unique architectural gem of our city. Architectural memorial of local significance.
