Description

Built on the edge of the Franz Joseph square in 1871-1873. Originally it was three-storeyed. It accommodated Bukovyna local council – the highest administrative body of the land, the local Sejm, the living premises of the president of region, of his advisers. In 1905 the house suffered from fire. Later the 4th floor was additionally constructed. The construction of the building is decorated with cartouches, chapiters and consoles. The pediment of the house was crowned with composition with the arms of Austria-Hungary. In 1906-1908 the house was electrified and the elevator was installed. The edifice was built in the style of late classicism. Inside the building there is a stained-glass window "Bear hunt", created by Viennese artist Offner. In Soviet times the building accommodated Chernivtsi regional committee of the party, today here are located the faculties of: Economics, History, Political Science and International Relations of Yuri Fedkovych Chernivtsi national university. Architectural memorial of local significance.
