This building in the style of Viennese Secession is located in the southern part of Rudolf square (now – Philharmonic square) and is its architectural dominant. Construction was carried out at the expense of local citizens Josef Landau and Max Meisner. In 1905 they received the permission of Chernivtsi city council for deconstruction of previous building and construction of a four-storeyed one from solid materials and with a fire-resistant roof. They were the ones to build the living premises with a stylized tower – the future “Bristol” hotel. In the basement there was a restaurant, and other floors were used by their purposes. There were three elevators installed in the house, which was a sign of a new stage of development of architecture and building in Chernivtsi. In 1940 the premises of the hotel that numbered 57 rooms, was nationalized and handed over for use to the local government, and from 1948 used as a dormitory of medical university. The ground floor accommodates shops and a bar. From the past glory there remained a stylish inscription “Hotel Bristol” on the facade and the roof in red tiles. Architectural memorial of local significance.
