Construction of this building of the university was motivated by the growing number of students, on the one hand, and an increase of departments and laboratories, on the other. This building was designed for natural sciences faculties, in particular for departments of chemistry, physics, mineralogy study. Their construction required compliance with the relevant conditions regarding ventilation, water supply and gas supply. The building was constructed by the project of director of Chernivtsi industrial school Josef Leitzner. 135 thousand florins was spent for construction. The works involved the following businesses: Alois Leopold (brick laying, utility works, paving, enclosing of construction site), Laurens Kukurudza (masonry and sculpture works), Haim Tannenbaum (carpentry), Franz Schuster (metal works), Salomon Meissner (plastering), Karl Gronau (painting), Josef Fischer (glass works), Julius Schwab from Vienna (roofing with slate), joint-stock enterprise from Vienna under the direction of engineer Leopold Bail installed water supply, Friedrich Dormund was involved in furnishing. Currently the building accommodates the department of general physics of engineering and technical faculty and the faculty of law of Chernivtsi national university. The premises of building no. 2 of the university are an architectural memorial of local significance.
