Description

Belongs to the museums of historical profile. This is the first diaspora museum in Ukraine, the funds of which currently number about 4 thousand pieces. The photos of first Bukovinian emigrants, household and everyday items of Bukovinians, samples of clothing of Bukovyna inhabitants of that time are exhibited. The museum is a research, scientific and educational institution. The exhibition consists of four thematic sections. The first section contains materials of three waves of emigration movement in Bukovyna of the late XIX – first half of XX centuries. The exposition of the second section of the Museum is dedicated to the countries of the greatest resettlement of Ukrainian diaspora: the USA, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Australia and European countries. The focus is on the history of the settlement of Bukovinians in these countries, their number, location, nature of employment, social life and culture. The next section of the exhibition highlights contemporary ties with Bukovinian diaspora. Those are the documents about the known fellow Bukovinians: Arkadiy Zhukovsky, Kostyantyn Popovych, Edwin Chargaff, Vasyl Kolotylo, Mykola Sukhoversky, Ramon Hnatyshyn and others. In the last section of the exhibition the works of renowned artists of Bukovinian diaspora are presented – Vasyl Kyrylyk, Yaroslav Paladiy, Temistocle Virsta, Petro Mehyk, Kseniya Kolotylo. Here you can as well get acquainted with the materials about the life of famous singer Joseph Schmidt, Bukovinian German-speaking poets Paul Celan and Roza Auslander.
