Description

The museum of the prominent Ukrainian writer, Kobzar of Bukovyna Yuri Adalbertovych Fedkovych (1834-1888), was founded in 1945. Museum exhibitions were placed in one of the rooms of the Residence of Bukovinian metropolitans, from 1962 – in the building of Chernivtsi local history museum, and on August 8, 2004, to the 170th anniversary of writer’s birth, the museum has finally left the temporary premises and was accommodated in the memorial house – a memorial of history. A plaque installed near the museum sign says: “Yuri Fedkovych lived in this house and edited “Bukovyna” newspaper (1885-1888)”. Here he died. The exhibition of museum consists of two parts: memorial one and literary one. The memorial rooms of the first Ukrainian regional society “Ruska besida” (Russian conversation), “Bukovyna” newspaper editorial and the memorial room of Yuri Fedkovych are reproduced. The museum keeps the first editions of the works of Yuri Fedkovych, documents, photos, scientific and fiction works about him. In the exhibition there is a gallery of Ukrainian writers close to Yuri Fedkovych.
