Description

Held since 1989 on the day of Chernivtsi city. Creative groups from Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Slovakia and Hungary take part in it. Namely at this festival the Bukovinian large diaspora from around the world is gathered. The idea of holding the folk festival “Bukovinian meetings” first arose among the Polish immigrants from Bukovyna, who are compactly residing in Pilsk county and is related to the activity of group “Yastrov'yatsy”, which cultivates the traditions of Bukovyna. The participants of the first festival were all Bukovinian groups from Poland, two from Ukraine and Polish one from Poiana Mikula in Romania. The circle of “Bukovinian meeting” festival participants and their geography was constantly expanding. Active supporters of the festival idea are gradually becoming all national communities living in Bukovyna. Ukrainian, Polish and Romanian groups are joined by Jews, Germans, Hungarians, Slovaks, Russians, and by the initiative of the artistic director of the festival, Mr. Zbigniew Kowalski, the festival has spread to Romania, Hungary, Slovakia.
