The total area of “Cemetery on Zelena street” is 35 hectares. The cemetery was founded in the ХІХ century. It is divided into Christian and Jewish necropolises, which are separated by Zelena street. At the cemetery the prominent public, political, military, religious figures, writers, artists, scientists and ordinary citizens are buried. The Jewish part is located on the right of Zelena street. At the entrance the Beit Kadishin (“Parting house”) falls into the eye – construction with a dome that resembles a synagogue. Erected in 1903 by Joseph Fyunkel by the project of Julius Bochner. The building is greatly destroyed: in Soviet times it was used as a warehouse for building materials. Nearby the wall of sorrow (architect K. Prestupenko, restorers I. Isaryk and V. Khrypko) from the fragments of broken tombstones is located. Another notable building is a chapel, installed on the grave of kohen (priest). Among the 10000 burials there is a part of graves of Orthodox Jews, there are mausoleums as well. At the Christian necropolis there are about 1400 monuments, they are included into the regional and state register of memorials of history and architecture. The first burials belong to 1831 during the cholera epidemic. At the cemetery the burgomaster Anton Kochanowski, writers Grygoriy and Sydir Vorobkevych, Yuri Fedkovych, Olga Kobylyanska, politicians Aurel Onchul, Alexander Hormuzaki, Antin Lukashevych are buried.
