This is a statuary monument built in the memory of the Ukrainian writer Olga Kobyleanska, placed in the town of Gura Humorului. The writer of Ukrainian language Olga Kobyleanska was born on the November 27, 1863, in the family of a small clerk (of Greek Catholic religion) from the town of Gura Humorului which was then under the Austro-Hungarian empire. In this town she spent her childhood and adolescence, and starting with the year 1891 she moved to Chernivtsi, where she remained for the rest of her life and where she died on the March 21, 1942. Her literary work is centred on the theme of Bukovina’s peasants, the Hutsuls and the Ukrainian intellectual society. She was a fierce fighter against the war. The National Theatre of Chernivtsi bears her name. On the November 14, 2003, in the writer's home town, it was unveiled the bust of the Ukrainian writer Olga Kobyleanska, which coincided with the 140 anniversary of her birth. The bust was made in Ukraine and the plinth bears the embossed signature of the writer. In front of the bust there is a white sheet metal supported on 3 metallic barrels on which is written, in Ukrainian, some information on the writer’s life and work. In December 2008, the sheet metal placed in front of the bust was repainted in yellow, the name of the writer being written Olga Kobylianska, more closely to the Ukrainian pronunciation of the name.
