Description

The Hutsul horse is an old autonomous breed, created in relatively harsh conditions and hilly regions. Its name is related to the name of the most of the inhabitants, namely the Hutsuls. This breed is very well adapted for the mountain region, has agility, traction force, as well as modest requirements for food. It is a submissive horse which can be harnessed even by the children. The nucleus of this breed was mentioned for the first time in the paper ”Hippica” of Dorohostajki from the year 1606. This breed is a result of the Tarpanic-type horse (used by the Slavs, Getae and Scythians) and the Pjwalski-type horse (tartars and Mongols' horse). These types of horses were taken as breeders when Lucina Stud Farm was established in 1856. This stud farm worked since 1788, but it was subordinated to Rădăuți stud farm. Stallions and female horses were exported to the Check Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Germany and England in order to improve the mountain ponies and for the war fought by English people with the Burs of South Africa. Today Lucina stud farm has over 400 horses, of which 60 female horses for reproduction and 16 nursery stallions. Those who visit this place can be accommodated at the hut near the stud farm and can take mountain trips on the back of the marvellous Hutsul horses of the farm.
