Description

The Citadel of Preutești is situated in the northern extremity of the village, on the left side of the springs of Brana stream, in the area of the old village Mănăstioara. Its strategic position is indubitable, since it is placed on a passage linking the Basin of Șomuzul Mare and the Basin of Șomuzul Mic. The site was first inhabited during the Cucuteni culture, but only the hallstattian fortification can still be seen today. Because, after a period of abandonment, the place was occupied again at the beginning of the Iron Age. The research made in the fortress show that the fortification was used to close a space of maximum 1600m2, too little for a permanent settlement. The place was rather a refuge for the civil population. In fact, this is shown by the little number of living vestiges discovered. The fortification, still visible today, well persevered thanks to the fact that the site was not use for agriculture, but for forestry, is composed of two land waves which completely close the enclosure and a partial one, on the south side, they were doubled by ditches to the external side of the citadel and they were built during the period in which wood palisades were used.
