It wad built by the prince Stephen Petriceicu, and in 2004 was included on the list of historical monuments of Suceava county. As the historian Nicolae Iorga states, during the period between 1672 and 1674, the prince Ștephen Petriceicu would have built an orthodox church, with the same saint day as the Dominican church. The Moldavian prince built in the year 1673 also St Onufrie's church, situated nearby. By around 1800, the church of”The Birth of the Saint John the Baptiser” from Siret had a new cemetery in the yard, which was then moved to Ruși quarter. The access to the church yard was made through the east side (the current public garden), the alley being framed on the right and the left by graves. The cemetery was reaching a lot also to the west side, where is now the Union's Square. Around 1800, the tower bell (situated outside the church) was demolished and the bells were placed inside the church. The church was restored in 1831 and then in 1893. During the repair works of 1831, the opened porch was closed. The land of the church was getting smaller and smaller. After moving the cemetery from the yard of the church, in 1862, the land around it was levelled and the Public Garden was placed on the east side. The land in front of the church was sold to the mayoralty, who created here the town's central square. The church priest contacted the authorities in Chernivtsi and Wien in order to obtain the approval to build a fence around the little land the church had left. First, it was built a fence made of wooden boards which was then replaced by a wrought iron grate placed on a stone base. When digging the trench, human skeletons were found, which were placed in two large coffins and buried in the cemetery, as well as two mass graves, each having 10 skeletons, which probably came from the 1770 epidemics. The 1983 repair works were more complex. The wall which separated the narthex and the nave was eliminated, the edifice was covered with sheet metal, new crosses were placed on the tower, the painting was cleaned and the iconostasis was rebuilt. The person who made the repair works was the parish priest Constantin Sbiera, who was a priest here between the years 1888 and 1905, after which he was transferred at Vatra Dornei. The building was damaged during the Fisrt Wolrd War, being repaired in 1926. Other repair works took place in the 90s of the XXtyh century. Between the years 1988 and 1993, while carrying out the repairs and the church of ”The Birth of the Saint John the Baptiser” was repainted, the religious sermons were held at the old Lutheran church. In the year 1996, ”Saints Constantine and Helen” parish was established by the separation of the ”The Birth of the Saint John the Baptiser” parish of Siret.
