Description

”Ștefan cel Mare” National College Building from Suceava was built in the baroque style between the years 1893-1895 in the municipality of Suceava. The Greek-Oriental Superior Middle School, the first and the only secondary Romanian school from this side of the country to the Great union, which operated in another building, even since 1860. The construction was made through joint efforts of the Austrian Authorities (who allocated 15.000 florins), the City Hall (who gave the place and 15.000 florins)and, especially, the Orthodox-Oriental Religious Fund (who donated 78.000 florins). With an impressive look, the building was placed in a very inappropriate place: with the front side facing a very narrow street (where it will be built also a railway), with insuffcieint adjacent spaces (3588 sq.m), on an alluvial soil which will cause later serious soil flooding problems. This is why it required, among others, the consolidation of the walls with metalic bars in 1906. On January 2nd, 1919, the old Griechisch-Ortodox, Kaiserliche, Königliche Obergymnasium will become “Ştefan cel Mare”High School.
