The building was built in the baroque style during the period between 1902 and 1903 and was used as headquarters for the Captaincy of the District of Suceava, also harbouring the Post and telegraphic and the customs office. After the union of Bukovina with Romania in the year 1918, it was used as the headquarters for the Prefect's Office of Suceava county. Starting with 1968 it serves as headquarters for Suceava County Museum. It was renovated between the years 1976 and 1979.
