The building was built in the XVIIIth century and initially belonged to the landlords of Kapri family. In the year 1884, the priest Simeon Florea Marian (1847-1907) bought the house and the land from Johann Kapri, wtih the money which came form the prize awarded in 1883 by the Romanian Academy for the work ”The Romanian popular ornitology”. The Romanian folklorist lived here until 1907 when he died. During this period he worked as a religion teacher at the Greek-Orthodox Gymnasium from Suceava (1893-1907), protopresbyter (1903) then being chosen as an active member of the Romanian Academy (1881). The building comprises six rooms. It was donated to the state by the folklorist's daughter Maria Cărăușu (1896-1979), and her husband, prof.eng. Mihai Cărăușu (1896-1979); they also donated a memorial and documentary fund comprising furniture belonging to that period, photos and paintings, books and periodicals, personal, cultural and historical items, music parts, maps. On june 24, 1974, in the building which is now an historical monument from the XVIIIth century, it was opened the memorial house and the documentary fund of Simion Florea Marian. Today, the memorial house comprises an impressive documentary fund which contains over 10.000 volumes, over 450 collections of magazines and newspapers, among which 150 are only from Bukovina, manuscripts, letters from important figures of Romanian and foreign culture, cultural and historical documents, numerous photos-document.
