Description

In 1551 the bell tower was built, and at the end of the XVIth century, during the time of Ieremia Movilă, the church building was rebuilt by someone called Simion. The church is dedicated to St. Dzerum (Simon the Old). In the second half of the XIXth century the church underwent repair works performed by the spouses Hadzi: Christea Gr. (1855-1928) and Mathilde Chr. - born Ibrăileanu (1868-1920). They donated the land for the cemetery situated in the yard of the church for the Armenian community in the area. Until the end of the XIXth century, around this church it was an Armenian cemetery which was afterwards moved near Zamca monastery. Here one can see very old burial stones, having inscribed the years 1618, 1788, 1789. On some of these stones, the inscriptions are in Armenian.
