Description

The statue was made by the sculptor Paul Vasilescu and placed in the year 1976 in the centre of Suceava municipality. The monument is an eulogy brought to the personality of the voivode Petru Mușat (1375-1391), who moved the capital of Moldavia from Siret to Suceava and the first document providing evidence of the existence of the Throne Fortress of Suceava (august 18, 1388) dates from his time. The statue is made out of cast bronze and depicts the voivode standing, with the spade in the right hand, close to his leg. The statue is 3.62m high, 1.10m long and 1.13 in width. The statue is seated on a travertine base, with the hight de 0.86 m, lenght of 1.11 m and the lenght of 1.31 m. The base contains the following inscription: Petru I Mușat. 1375-1391.
