Description

In Vatra Dornei there were no Jews registered after the censuse of 1774. The Jews were mentioned in 1860 in Şaru Dornei. In the same year, the manager of finances, Zulawchi, proposes the establishment of an Israeli restaurant for the Jews who come to baths. After Leo Drach leased the establishments in the propriety of the church under the conditions of the competition stimulated by Dr. Binder, the number of Jews seeking treatment in Vatra Dornei increased. This led to the necessity of making a few churches and a Jewish temple for those who came to the resort. This was built in 1908, being a place of high attraction for the Jews who established here, for those who came for treatment and those who were just passing by. During the First World War and between the two World Wars, the building suffered no damage, being the period in which the rabbi dr. M. Dolberg, the president of the community of Vatra Dornei took very good care of the building. The Second World War will bring destructions to the the building, which is still present today, since the Mosaic community had no financial power to repair the building. The beauty of the building shall be restored only if the necessary funding is found.
